Your Scheduling Software Now Has an AI Receptionist: What Jobber and ServiceTitan Contractors Need to Know

The field service platforms most Northwest contractors already run both offer AI receptionists now. Here's what each one actually handles — and where the gap is.

Jobber and ServiceTitan — the two most widely used field service management platforms in the Pacific Northwest — both now include AI phone answering as a native feature. Jobber's is included free with the Plus plan; ServiceTitan's is a separate module with published case study results from June 2026. Which one covers your operation depends on the calls you're actually running.

What changed in 2025–26

The field service software market made a quiet but significant move: the platforms running your scheduling, dispatch, and invoicing started handling your phones too. A year ago, AI phone answering meant signing up for a separate service, porting your number, and figuring out how to integrate it with your existing software. Today, if you're already on Jobber or ServiceTitan, an AI receptionist is built into the platform — or one plan upgrade away.

ServiceTitan's AI Voice Agent — what it delivered

ServiceTitan published the most detailed AI voice agent case study released by any field service software company in 2026. In June, the company shared results from Bill Joplin's Air Conditioning and Heating, an HVAC operation in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The company deployed ServiceTitan's AI Voice Agent — named "Karen" by the team — ahead of peak summer season.

Over just over three months, the system handled more than 1,300 calls. More than 90 percent of those calls resulted in booked jobs. Seventy-two percent were completed with no human involvement at any point. The estimated financial outcome: $74,000 in incremental booked revenue and $23,000 in cost savings from reduced missed calls and avoided seasonal hiring. Setup took roughly 20 minutes (ServiceTitan, 2026).

Those numbers are worth taking seriously. They are also context-dependent. ServiceTitan is built for mid-to-large operations — established HVAC and plumbing companies with multiple techs, complex scheduling requirements, and dispatch teams. Its pricing structure reflects that. A two-person shop in Kalispell looking for AI phone coverage is not the primary ServiceTitan customer, and ServiceTitan's AI module is priced accordingly.

Jobber's AI Receptionist — how it works for smaller shops

Jobber, founded in Edmonton, Alberta, is the field service management platform most common among the kind of contractor that defines the Northwest and Montana market: a two-to-eight person operation handling plumbing, HVAC, landscaping, or cleaning. Jobber's AI Receptionist handles both voice calls and text messages 24 hours a day. It books appointments directly into the Jobber calendar using the same availability rules already configured for online booking — no new setup required, no risk of double-booking (Jobber, 2026).

According to Jobber's feature page, the system handles an average of more than 20 calls per week without requiring human involvement (Jobber, 2026). After each call it creates a task with a conversation summary, so the owner can see what came in without listening to recordings. It recognizes returning customers by phone number and handles their requests differently from new leads.

The AI Receptionist is included at no extra cost with the Plus plan and available as a paid add-on on lower-tier plans.

What neither system covers

An AI receptionist built into your FSM solves the missed-call problem inside that platform. It does not automatically create a complete front-of-house system. The gaps are predictable once you understand where each platform draws its boundary.

  • Cross-platform data flow: Both systems operate within their own data model. If you also run a separate CRM, a review platform, or a marketing automation tool, call data stays inside the FSM and does not sync outward automatically.
  • Proactive follow-up: The AI answers and books. It does not automatically follow up with a caller who asked a question but did not schedule — that trigger lives outside what FSM-embedded AI is designed to handle.
  • Complex job qualification: High-value calls — whole-home re-pipes, commercial electrical installs, large HVAC replacements — often require multi-turn conversations to capture scope and route to the right tech. A standard booking flow is not built for that level of intake.
  • Revenue attribution: Which inbound calls became booked jobs? Which of those produced your highest-margin work? Neither platform surfaces that view across the full phone-to-revenue pipeline.

How to know which you need

If most of your inbound calls are standard service requests — booking HVAC maintenance, a plumbing check, a recurring cleaning — and if you run a single platform without a parallel CRM or marketing stack, the built-in AI handles the core problem. That covers most one-to-five person shops getting a predictable mix of service calls.

The picture shifts as your call mix includes larger or harder-to-qualify jobs, as your operation spans multiple tools, or as you start tracking which channels produce your best work. A commercial contractor fielding project scope calls, or a growing shop running Jobber alongside a CRM and a review system, is asking the phone layer to do more than a booking AI is built for.

Jobber's AI Receptionist handles both voice calls and text messages 24/7. It answers incoming calls, books jobs, takes messages, and routes to a human staff member based on configured keyword triggers. It is not voicemail — it is a live conversation that books directly into your Jobber calendar.
